Nestled along the famed coastline of Seminyak, on one of Indonesia’s most renowned beaches, lies the W Retreat & Spa Bali. A mere 20-30 minutes (or 45 minutes during peak traffic) from the brand-new Bali Denpasar airport, this haven awaits.
After a seamless landing and airport exit, our hosts graciously welcomed us, chauffeuring us to the hotel in a luxurious German SUV—our first glimpse into a realm of impeccable refinement.
The onboard vehicle, complete with Wi-Fi for those needing to catch up on emails or social networks, provided refreshments and fresh fruits, elevating our transfer to a pleasurable experience.
The setting

Throughout our stay, we encountered distinctly different atmospheres during the day and night within the hotel, without ever changing accommodations. The lobby, bars, ceilings, elevators, and light panels dynamically shifted their ambiance, creating a fusion of stylish funkiness and upscale sophistication, influenced by the time of day.

W Retreat & Spa Bali, a beachfront sanctuary, stands directly facing the ocean. The resort showcases a striking tiered pool complex, artfully inspired by the island’s terrace fields. Tucked amidst the villa section, and distanced from the resort’s lively hubs, lie two reflective ponds embraced by a lush tropical garden, accompanied by a Wantilan—a secluded oasis for in-house guests.
Comprising 237 retreats, suites, and villas, each designed with W’s signature chic and innovative touch, the accommodations offer stunning ocean or garden vistas. Our generously sized room, from the sleeping quarters to the bathroom, offered breathtaking views of both the resort and the coastal expanse.
Rooms boast a lavish and comfortable environment adorned with cutting-edge modern amenities. Features such as high-speed wireless internet, a BOSE® sound system, flat-screen LED TV, W signature beds, Bliss Spa amenities, plush bathrobes, soaking tubs, and rainforest showers ensured our utmost comfort during our stay. Villas, nestled amidst tropical gardens and water ponds in a distinct area of the resort, provided a highly appealing option for families, offering independent living spaces and private pools.

Inspired by the design of Balinese rice fields, spanning over 1,790 square meters, the landscaped tropical pool area stands as a focal point of W Retreat & Spa Bali’s outdoor features. Ideal for both leisurely swims and relaxation on inflatable mattresses or sunbeds, the pool area is a favored hangout, accompanied by trendy beats played by a DJ during afternoons and evenings.
The beachfront area also boasts lounge beds for your relaxation. However, the sea’s high waves throughout the day discourage swimming.
A 24/7 resort gym and morning yoga sessions provide fitness options. Outdoor enthusiasts can borrow bicycles and explore the island. The gym’s changing room features hot and cold plunge pools and a spacious steam room, offering an ideal post-workout relaxation.

Positioned by the Indian Ocean waves, STARFISH BLOO specializes in Pan-Asian cuisine, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A lunch experience stands out, featuring a selection of seafood and meat bites with local flavors. A highlight includes a set of raw salmon and Wagyu beef for guests to grill on a mini barbecue filled with hot lava stones, creating an interactive and memorable dining experience.
